About Ganesh Devy
Ganesh Narayandas Devy, born on August 1, 1950, is a distinguished literary critic, cultural activist, and educator. He is celebrated for his groundbreaking initiatives, including the People's Linguistic Survey of India, which documented the linguistic diversity of the country, revealing the existence of approximately 780 languages. His ambitious project brought together over 3,500 collaborators to map India's rich cultural landscape, a critical endeavor in preserving endemic languages that are at risk of extinction.
Devy's literary contributions include significant works such as "After Amnesia", which earned him the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1993, and his ongoing advocacy for the Denotified and Nomadic Tribes (DNT) has made a noteworthy imprint on India's socio-cultural fabric.
