he Tajhat Zamindar Estate was established by Manna Lal Roy, a wealthy jeweller who migrated from Punjab to Bengal.

Because he traded in expensive jewels (taj means crown/jewel), the area became known as “Taj-hat” — meaning a market where jewels were sold.

Later, the estate leadership passed to Kumar Gopal Lal Roy, one of the most influential zamindars of the region.
