Undergraduate programmes at University of Bristol: After you apply

Once you submit your application to an undergraduate programme at the University of Bristol, your journey is far from over. There are key stages still ahead: tracking your application, attending any interviews or tests, receiving an offer (or not), accepting it, and preparing for your start at university. This post walks you through what happens after you apply so you know what to expect and what steps you should take.

1. Your Application Status & Dashboard

After your application via UCAS is received, University of Bristol will email you an acknowledgment and provide access to an Applicant Dashboard.
Through this secure portal you can:
Upload additional documents (e.g., Fee Status Questionnaire, supporting paperwork)
Request a change to your application (for example, change of course or deferment)
Report extenuating circumstances or update your profile if needed.
Note that using the dashboard is in addition to checking your status via UCAS Track. The dashboard does not show whether you have received an offer — for that you use UCAS.
The university aims to make a decision on most applications within five weeks of receipt, although some may take longer — especially if placed on hold.

2. Interviews, Tests or Other Selection Stages

For certain courses, you may be invited to attend an interview, or take a test, as part of the selection process.
Courses that always include interviews include: Dentistry, Medicine, Veterinary Science and Foundation Years.
Other courses may include interviews if your qualifications are non-traditional or you are a mature applicant.
For engineering, maths and computer science programmes, if you are not studying A-level Maths (or equivalent), you may be asked to sit an additional maths test.

3. Receiving an Offer

After assessment, you will receive one of the following via UCAS:
Conditional offer: You must meet specified conditions (grades, subject requirements, etc).
Unconditional offer: You already meet all the criteria and your place is secured.
Rejection: The university has decided not to offer you a place.
When you receive your offer, you should check:
The exact conditions (if conditional) such as required grades, subjects, or language test.
Whether the offer is standard or a contextual offer (if you’re eligible).
The University holds offer-holder events, where you can attend open days or online sessions to learn more about the campus and what it’s like being a student.

4. After Accepting Your Offer

Once you accept (via UCAS) your offer of a place at Bristol, there are several next steps:

Accommodation: Apply for halls or student housing early so you have a good chance of securing your preferred option.
Finance and Funding: Start your student finance application — tuition fees, maintenance, scholarships.
Visa (for international students): If you are an international applicant you will need to meet visa requirements once your place is confirmed.
Pre-arrival activities: Attend any welcome or induction sessions, enrolment tasks, and make your travel/settling arrangements.
You may be asked to upload final transcripts or proof of qualifications ahead of matriculation.
