Hagley Museum and Library – Wilmington
What It Is
The Hagley Museum and Library is a fascinating historic site that tells the story of early American industry, innovation, and everyday life. It is located on the original site of the DuPont Company’s early powder mills, where generations of workers and the du Pont family shaped one of America’s most important industries.
Visitors to Hagley can explore more than 235 acres of beautifully preserved landscapes, including restored mills, machine shops, workers’ houses, and the original Eleutherian Mills—the family home of the du Ponts in the United States. The museum offers insight into how water power from the Brandywine River fueled industry in the 19th century and how families lived and worked in this vibrant community. Guests can experience live demonstrations of historic machinery, walk along scenic river paths, and learn about the growth of technology and business in early America.
