Undergraduate Programmes at University of Birmingham: How to Apply

If you are preparing to apply for an undergraduate programme at University of Birmingham (UoB), understanding the application process clearly is essential. This post outlines the steps you’ll go through, how offers are made, and what to do once you receive an offer.

1. How to Apply

  1. For all undergraduate courses at University of Birmingham you must apply online via UCAS (the Universities & Colleges Admissions Service).
  2. The University’s UCAS campus code is B32.
  3. Check the application deadline for your chosen course, as it varies by subject. For example:
  4. The general deadline for most courses for September 2026 entry is Wednesday 14 January 2026.
  5. For Medicine and Dentistry at Birmingham, the deadline is Wednesday 15 October 2025.
  6. You can apply for up to five courses in your UCAS application.
  7. After submission you will monitor your application via the UCAS Hub and the University may contact you for interviews, auditions or additional tests if required.

2. How Offers Are Made

  1. Once you’ve submitted your UCAS application, the University’s admissions team reviews your academic record, personal statement, references, and suitability for your chosen course.
  2. You may receive either a conditional offer (you must meet specified grades/conditions) or an unconditional offer (you have already met the requirements).
  3. For certain courses you may be invited to further steps such as an interview or audition (for example in performing arts, medicine, some science courses).

3. What to Do After Receiving an Offer

  1. Review your offer letter carefully — it will state any conditions you must meet, deadlines, and next steps.
  2. You must respond to your offers via UCAS: choose your firm choice (your first preference) and insurance choice (backup).
  3. Important deadlines:
  4. 3 June 2026 is the deadline for most students to reply to their offer and secure their place.
  5. Deadlines for accommodation applications: for UK students guarantee scheme deadline 30 June; for international students 31 July.
  6. If your offer is conditional, you must meet those conditions (for example particular exam grades) by the given deadline. After conditions are met, you will receive your confirmation and can prepare for enrolment.

4. Special Considerations for International Applicants

  1. As an international applicant, you still apply via UCAS for most courses, but you should take account of extra steps such as visa application, English language requirements and earlier deadlines if applicable.
  2. Make sure you meet any required English proficiency tests or other documentation required by your specific course or qualification system.
  3. Once you receive an unconditional offer and meet the conditions, you may need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) for visa purposes.

5. Checklist for a Smooth Application

  1. Choose your course(s) and check the specific entry requirements for each.
  2. Prepare your personal statement emphasising your interest, motivation and suitability for the subject.
  3. Arrange your school/college reference.
  4. Submit your application via UCAS by the deadline.
  5. Monitor your application status (UCAS Hub) and respond to any invitations (interview, audition).
  6. Once you receive an offer, decide your firm and insurance choices via UCAS.
  7. If conditional, ensure you meet all conditions by the deadline.
  8. If international, prepare for visa application once your offer is confirmed.
  9. After accepting, prepare for enrolment, accommodation and arrival logistics.
